Back to School

July and August find the pantry reaching beyond the usual food needs to help all client children begin the school year with necessary schools supplies and a feeling of excitement and belonging.

Donations of the following are needed:

Volunteers to stuff and distribute the backpacks and supplies are needed to work in special teams in late July and August.  Schedules vary.  Please contact info@hhfp.org to see how you can help.

Santa Shop

Early in the fall our elves begin the work of contacting local businesses and donors to secure age appropriate gifts for client children ranging in age from birth to 18.

Cash donations are needed to complete the needs for gifts for all age groups.  Donate Online!

In addition, a supply of gifts are available for children to select to have wrapped and give their parents.  Stuffed stockings are available for everyone.

You can be a part of this exciting and very satisfying event by volunteering to:

  • Join the elves in the Fall to begin procuring gifts
  • Organize gifts as donations begin
  • Pick up gifts at gift sites and take them to the organization station
  • Make and stuff age appropriate stockings
  • Provide crafts on Santa Shop Day
  • Be Santa/Dancing dreidel
  • Set up the Santa Shop
  • Assist clients in gift selection
  • And more!

Thanksgiving

Since 2002 client families who desire a turkey for Thanksgiving Day have been given a turkey along with all the trimmings necessary to the traditional holiday feast.  In recent years the economy has challenged our ability to continue this tradition.  However with the help of several SE Michigan vendors and generous donations from donors we have been able to meet the need.  You can help by donating shelf stable items for the holiday meal or by making a cash donation to assist us in purchasing.

  • Turkeys
  • Butter
  • Celery/Carrots/Potatoes/Onions
  • Eggs

A donation of $25.00 will provide the turkey and all the fixings for a family of four.

To add to your enjoyment of the holidays consider volunteering to work during the organization of holiday food or during the very busy distribution time that occurs during the month of November.
