For donors who enjoy meeting special needs Hospitality House needs your help several times a year to meet unique needs.
Back to School
July and August find the pantry reaching beyond the usual food needs to help all client children begin the school year with necessary schools supplies and a feeling of excitement and belonging.
Donations of the following are needed:
- Sturdy backpacks
- School supplies (list the list here or provide a link to lists for age appropriate groups)
- Haircut certificates
- Gift Cards for basic clothing needs
Volunteers to stuff and distribute the backpacks and supplies are needed to work in special teams in late July and August. Schedules vary. Please contact Back to School Coordinator (insert name and contact manner or link to see how you can help.
Since 2002 client families who desire a turkey for Thanksgiving day have been given a turkey along with all the trimmings necessary to the traditional holiday feast. In recent years the economy has challenged our ability to continue this tradition. However with the help of several SE Michigan vendors and generous donations from donors we have been able to meet the need. You can help by donating shelf stable items for the holiday meal (Insert link to list) or by making a cash donation to assist us in purchasing.
A donation of $25.00 will provide the turkey and all the fixings for a family of four.
To add to your enjoyment of the holidays consider volunteering to work during the organization of holiday food or during the very busy distribution time that occurs during the month of November. Volunteer here. (Insert link).
Santa Shop is a major undertaking every year with more than 600 children having a wonderful Christmas because of the dedicated work of our Holiday Elves. Early in the fall our elves begin the work of contacting local businesses and donors to secure age appropriate gifts for client children ranging in age from birth to 18.
In keeping with our client choice pantry plan Santa Shop provides a free shopping experience for clients who go with an elf escort from puzzle table to book table to clothing table to game table and so on as they select gifts for their children. A wrapping station is provided, Santa visits, craft areas are arrange to keep children occupied as parents shop and a dancing dreidle has been known to be seen.
Elves know how much is available and how many children need a visit from Santa and effectively lead families to select the right number of gifts so everyone’s need is met while making sure there are few unclaimed gifts.
In addition, a supply of gifts are available for children to select to have wrapped and give their parents. Stuffed stockings are available for everyone.
You can be a part of this exciting and very satisfying event by volunteering to:
- Join the elves in the Fall to begin procuring gifts
- Organize gifts as donations begin
- Pick up gifts at gift sites and take them to the organization station
- Make and stuff age appropriate stockings
- Provide crafts on Santa Shop Day
- Be Santa/Dancing dreidle
- Set up the Santa Shop
- Assist clients in gift selection
- And more
Cash donations are needed to complete the needs for gifts for all age groups. Donate Online!

With so many interesting past themes, it has become fun to guess what this committee has in mind each year.
With 6 – 8 months of planning involved this is a place a committed person with imagination to volunteer. Many special skills from sewing to finance management or card dealing are needed so if you have a passion for helping others, great organizational skills with the ability to focus on a long term project this is the place for you.
